Overview

Accounting terms and documents might sound daunting and deter you from going through them and understanding the whole picture and making better business decisions. This course will equip you with the skills necessary to interpret various financial statements and analyze the information appropriately to gain an in-depth understanding of the situation. The topics covered will provide you with a basic, yet solid introduction to accounting and help you look at certain things from a different perspective.

The course explores income statements, cash flow, balance sheets, basic accounting terminology, and ensures to provide you with opportunities to practically apply the content in your line of work. You will be going through case studies of companies such as Sandstorm Gold, Lululemon, Coca Cola, Toyota, Adidas, Telus, Starbucks, Urthecast and Nestle. You will be able to learn from the successful accounting practices of these companies and implement it in your own department or organization.

Moreover, the course has three in-class sessions filled with engaging activities from an expert in the field. This course contains specific elements to help you engage with the content and other people in the course, network with the appropriate stakeholders, and progress through to the next step in your academic or professional career.
